Bear Hunting, Canada Goose Hunting, Duck Hunting and Swan Hunting in North Carolina with Wild Wing Adventures

What to Bring

BEAR HUNTS - Essential items to bring are as follows:

  1. Camouflage - Not nearly as important as scent control, scent control should be your number one priority.  The darker the clothing the better, you never know when the opportunity to stalk a bear will present itself.  Face mask and gloves are of high importance.

  2. Rubber Boots – Don’t bring the pair that you use around the farm or house.  Dedicate a pair to hunting and don’t wear them to the gas station or in parking lots.  Rubber soles are petroleum based and they readily absorb gases and oils.

  3. Weapon – We welcome archery equipment, handguns, and rifles but be able to shoot what you bring and demonstrate it.  Minimum rifle caliber is .30 and when choosing your ammunition the heaviest bullet isn’t necessarily the best.  Check ballistics data for kinetic energy delivered to target.  We recommend having shot one box minimum in the week prior to arriving to camp.  You owe it to the animal to make a clean and efficient shot.

  4. Clothing – Dressing in layers is the best choice.  Some stands have long walks so you don’t want to get sweated up during your walk to the stand.  We have had temperatures in the mid 80’s in December as well as low 30’s in November.  Being prepared for any weather including rain is highly encouraged.  Blaze orange is required in North Carolina, a hat is sufficient.

  5. House Gear – You will need to bring your own pillow and sleeping bag.  Bring some house slippers being boots are to be left in the mud room.  Groceries for your meals while at the house.  Toiletry items of your choice.  A book for passing time in the evenings.

  6. Game Needs – Bring a cooler to transport your trophy/meat home.  We have a good bear taxidermist nearby that can handle your bear hide and cape processing.  We skin and quarter your bear for you.

  7. Flashlight – Everyone needs to have either a red lens or a red LED light.  The red light will not spook game in route to and from your stand.  This is very important!

  8. In The Stand – I encourage you bring and electronic game (with a silent mode) or a book to help pass the time while in the stand.  We encourage hunters to hunt all day.  Bears are seen and killed each year in the middle of the day.

WATERFOWL HUNTS – Essential items to bring are as follows:

  1. Chest waders
  2. Face mask
  3. Gloves
  4. Camouflage jacket/fleece
  5. Flashlight
  6. Plenty of ammunition
  7. Dog stand (if you bring your dog)
  8. Cooler to transport your birds
  9. Snacks/drinks
